Zara honoured with BBC sports award

Zara Phillips could barely contain her delight on Sunday when she followed in her mother's footsteps by being named BBC Sports Personality of the Year. The pretty royal's moment of glory came 35 years after Princess Anne received the same honour for her achievements as an equestrian.

"I'm actually shaking," confessed the 25-year-old as she stepped up to receive the gong. "It's amazing. Thanks to all the voters. It's just amazing to be here with all these amazing sports people. It's just fantastic and I'm sat there in awe in everyone. To win this is absolutely amazing - thank you so much."

The pretty blonde, who was accompanied to the ceremony by her rugby playing beau Mike Tindall, won the gold medal at the World Equestrian Games earlier this year. By doing so she became only the third rider in history to hold both the European and World titles at the same time.

And it would seem Zara's talent's aren't limited to horsemanship. Her appearance in a new publicity campaign for Land Rover makes her the first member of the Royal family in direct line to the throne to star in an advertisement. The photograph, which was taken by Sir Paul McCartney's daughter Mary, shows her sitting in a white Roberto Cavalli dress and high heels, both of which are splattered with mud.
