Ten days after his death, George Harrison’s fans are still in the dark as to where his ashes have been scattered. There had been claims by Hare Krishna followers that his family were going to scatter the former Beatle’s ashes in the river Ganges, last week, but widow Olivia and son Dhani have still not been seen in the holy city of Varanasi.

According to reports, George passed away peacefully on a chaise longue, covered with a yellow silk blanket and sprinkled with rose petals, in the presence of his wife and son. After he was cremated, it was generally believed that the guitarist’s remains would be transported to India by private jet.

However, an export licence for George’s ashes, issued to his family in Los Angeles last week, lists the destination as Lugano, Switzerland. The musician had moved into a beautiful mansion there, close to the clinic where he had been receiving radiotherapy treatment for cancer. The star had told his neighbours in Montagnola, above Lake Lugano, that he had planned to make the villa his permanent home.

Olivia Harrison had asked fans for a worldwide minute’s silence by Beatles fans last Monday evening, when it was thought that George’s ashes would be set free in India. But she and her son held a private memorial service overlooking the ocean at Pacific Pallisades, close to Los Angeles. Is this where George Harrison’s mortal remains were finally set free for all eternity?
