It took football star Dwight Yorke two months to add his name to the birth certificate of his blind son by glamour model Jordan, but friends of the star says he's now stepping up his fatherly – and financial – responsibilities.

The athlete, who initially did not accept that seven-month-old baby Harvey was his child, is having his lawyers set up a £500,000 million trust fund for the infant.

Dwight earns £40,000 a week with the Blackburn Rovers and will put £1,500 a month toward the fund. His tiny baby, who was born without sight in May, won't be able to touch the money until he turns 18. "Dwight is doing the decent thing for a son he loves," a friend of the star told The Sun, adding: "The fund will not affect the maintenance Dwight gives Jordan for day to day expenses. He will continue to pay for that."

Jordan, however, insists the sports star doesn't pay regular support, and Harvey needs cash right now. "He is special needs and there are essential day to day requirements," she says.
