ROBBIE WILLIAMS SWINGS INTO BRITISH RICH LIST FOR THE FIRST TIME

Robbie Williams has made his first appearance on a list of Britain’s richest people, his £35 million fortune tying him with Manchester United star David Beckham. The Swing When Your Winning star’s recent success launched him to number 962 on the Times top 1000 annual survey.

“He certainly deserves to be known as ‘Robbie Millions’ now,” says The Times Rich List compiler Dr Philip Beresford. And with a reported £40 million contract renewal with EMI on the table, the former Take That singer may just up his ranking next year.

However, Robbie made the rankings on his own – calculation for Becks’s fortune also included the £20 million wealth of his superstar wife Victoria. The combined strength of the Beckhams’ bank ledger edges out boxer Naseem Hamed, who’s worth £30 million, for the top spot on the sports ranking, and also make David the richest sports star under 30 on the list.

Though he’s made his big debut in the top 1000, Robbie and his fortune are nowhere near those of the music industry giants making repeat appearances on the list. Sir Paul McCartney’s whopping £713 million easily give him the number one spot, with his American tour likely to increase his worth next year. The £200 million fortune of Madonna and Guy Ritchie puts the power couple at number four, just behind runner up Lord Lloyd Webber (£420 million) and number three multimillionaire Sir Cameron Mackintosh (£400 million).

Other big names in the music top ten are Sir Elton John, Mick Jagger, Sting and the Bee Gees, while new entries include George Harrison’s widow Olivia, who appears on the list for the first time at number nine after inheriting a £140 million fortune from the late Beatle. Soul singer Sade also made her debut, matching Robbie’s £35 million.

The list is published in full in the The Sunday Times this weekend.
