Police have charged five men with conspiring to kidnap Victoria Beckham. A Scotland Yard spokesman has revealed that the men, who were arrested last November over an alleged kidnap plan, are to face formal charges.

“Officers from the Kidnap And Special Investigations Unit have fully investigated the allegation of a conspiracy to kidnap Victoria Beckham," said the spokesman. “Following consultation with the Crown Prosecution Service, it has been decided that they will be charged with the offence of conspiracy to kidnap Victoria Beckham.”

The suspects were amongst nine people detained in a series of police raids in London last year. They had allegedly planned to abduct Victoria and demand a £5-million ransom from her husband for her safe return.

David Beckham will be glad to receive some positive news, after what has been a tough weekend for the England captain. His team Manchester United lost their FA Cup clash with Arsenal on Saturday, after he came off injured. And he suffered another injury in the changing-room, when manager Alex Ferguson angrily kicked a football boot, sending it flying into his face.

While Alex certainly didn't intend to hit his star player, the angry outburst left David with a gash above his eye which required two stitches.
