The romance between the richest teenager in the world and the boyfriend 12 years her senior is apparently hotting up.
British newspaper the Daily Express reports that Aristotle Onassis' 18-year-old billionaire granddaughter, Athina Roussel, and her beau Alvaro de Miranda Neto, 30, have flown to Brazil this week. Although there has been talk that the two may be planning to announce their engagement during the trip, friends say they doubt she will tie the knot with the Olympic horseman.
The relationship between Athina, who recently inherited the Onassis family fortune, and the 30-year-old divorced father of one has raised eyebrows since it began last year. The heiress' father Thierry Roussel, however, is understood to have given his blessing.
Last month, Athina's attorney said the teenager would continue to act "like most young people", despite having picked up billions as she turned 18 in January. "She is celebrating her 18th birthday like anyone would, with happiness and enthusiasm," said family lawyer Marc Bonnant on the landmark day. "I don't think her life will change much."
The teen's fortune includes shares in more than 80 companies, an airline, New York's Olympic Tower, a Greek island and a fleet of 38 ships.
