Having waited three decades for their favourite band to put in its next appearance, fans of the legendary rock group The Police received some good news this week when the trio's former frontman Sting confirmed they are to reform.

The 55-year-old singer reveals he has been in talks with drummer Stewart Copeland and guitarist Andy Summers about the reunion. "We started 30 years ago, so it would be nice to do something to celebrate," he said. "We don't know quite what yet, but we're talking about it."

When the band officially broke up in 1986, The Police was one of the biggest rock bands in the world and its legions of fans were horrified by the decision. Sting still reckons it was the right thing to do at the time, though.

"I'm very proud of the band we were in," he explains. "I left... because I felt I wanted to grow as a musician, to mature as a musician and to try to do more things than a band is able to do."
