After taking the UK music scene by storm over 15 years ago, today Oasis remain as firmly in the spotlight as ever.

The British public seems divided, however, as to whether that's down to the fame or the notoriety of Manchester brothers Noel and Liam Gallagher, resulting in the outfit scooping both best and worst British band nods among their seven NME nominations announced this week.

Noel, who along with his brother was recognised in the best live band and album categories for Dig Out Your Soul, was also singled out for a best dressed nod. "I always knew my time would come in the best dressed man in the world category," joked the 41-year-old dad-of-two upon hearing the news.

At the February 25 presentation ceremony the siblings will be going up against Radiohead, Bloc Party and Muse in the best British band category, while Beyonce's husband Jay Z will challenge Pete Doherty in the best solo artist section. An unlikely nominee is new US president Barack Obama, who made it into the hero of the year category.

Winners, voted for by readers of NME magazine, will be announced at the Brixton Academy awards ceremony.

Seems like it's a case of either love 'em or hate 'em when it comes to Oasis boys Liam and Noel Gallagher, who've ended up in both the best and worst band category following a public vote to determine the NME nominations
