She might not have picked up any gongs at the BRIT Awards, but Cheryl Cole was a definite candidate for the best dressed trophy. The Geordie beauty was uber glam in a sequinned black Stella McCartney dress.

Her gown was split to the thigh, and being backless, showed off her new tattoo. Cheryl had been nominated in two categories. She was pipped to the post by newcomer Laura Marling (below right) in the Female Solo Artist category, and nudged out by Tinie Temper in the British Single section. His single Pass Out saw off competition from her effort, Parachute.Cheryl was called up to the stage on presenting duty, though. She gave Rihanna the International Solo Female trophy (below left).Other winners included Take That - named Best British Group. For them it marked their seventh BRIT award. As they were given the gong, Gary Barlow said: "Brilliant, thank you all so much. "Mark Owen then took the microphone and said to Robbie Williams: "Can I say thanks for coming back mate. Appreciate it. It's a real pleasure for the five of us to be up here."

Robbie rejoined the group last summer. The lads: Gary. Robbie, Mark, along with Jason Orange and Howard Donald - kicked off the ceremony by performing their new single Kidz. With the Grammy Awards being held later than usual this year, big American names were slightly short on the ground. Justin Bieber was there though, and it wasn't a wasted trip for the teen idol. After missing out at the Grammys, he walked off with the International Breakthrough trophy. Cee Lo Green also made the trip across the Atlantic. Despite only being in the country eight hours he managed to close the ceremony with a rousing rendition of Forget You - the song he performed at the Grammys with Gwyneth Paltrow. This time, providing female vocals was British singer Paloma Faith.
