Carla Bruni Sarkozy, 45, is firmly back in the spotlight. France's former first lady was on form she sang new material on TV show Vivement Dimanche this week. Wearing a sharp suit jacket as she strummed her guitar, the star blended her political and pop personas. Carla has gone back to her music and modelling roots since she and husband Nicolas Sarkozy left the Élysée Palace last year. Their daughter Giulia was born in October 2011, joining her half-brother, Aurélien.

Carla is juggling home commitments with her new creative projects, which have been very successful in her adopted homeland. Her new album, Little French Songs, shot to the top of the country's music charts when it was released last week. Carla also joined starlet Lana Del Rey at Berlin's Echo Music Awards in March. Last year, the troubadour compared herself to Lady Gaga as she discussed how she handled media interest during her glamorous term as first lady.   "If I hadn't had the experience of media exposure, that would have been harder," she said. "I disguise myself literally as well as figuratively. With a wig, nobody recognises me on the Metro. With my experience with the media, I am Lady Gaga."

With her music doing well, the star has also signed up to a modelling campaign for luxury jewellers Bulgari. According to reports, Carla was photographed by Terry Richardson in Rome for her first campaign for the jewellers. If she appears, she will follow in the footsteps of Julianne Moore, Rachel Weisz and Isabella Rossellini, who have all fronted the brand in the past.
