Cory Monteith cremated in Canada as father says he is 'totally, totally devastated' not to have been invited

Cory Monteith was privately cremated in Canada on Tuesday. His girlfriend Lea Michele and most of the late Glee star's family attended the private service.

Cory, 31, was tragically found dead in a Vancouver hotel room over the weekend, following a heroin and alcohol overdose.

His father Joe, who is divorced from Cory's mum Ann, was not invited to the viewing, and told People he is "just totally, totally devastated."

"I was all ready to go, my suitcase was packed, I just needed to know where he was and nobody got back to me until after the fact," he said.

Joe divorced Cory's mother when the star was seven years old. Cory and his brother Shaun were raised by Ann in Victoria, British Columbia, and they saw little of their father due to Joe's military service.

In 2009, Cory reunited with his father for the first time in 17 years. In an interview with Parade magazine in 2011, Cory said of the reunion, "We'd spoken maybe three or four times and he reached out to me on Facebook. I couldn't shut the door, so I got on a plane.

"He greeted me at the airport, and (he and step mum Yvette) were so happy they were almost crying. It was a good time."

Cory's friends and family are still trying to come to terms with his tragic death. On Monday, his girlfriend Lea, 26, released a statement to say she is grieving alongside his loved ones.

"Lea is deeply grateful for all the love and support she's received from family, friends and fans. Since Cory's passing, Lea has been grieving alongside his family and making appropriate arrangements with them."

Cory's co-star Dianna Agron has also paid tribute to the late actor. "I have never lost a friend," she said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. "In this difficult time, I am leaning on all of the wonderful memories we shared with Cory, how many ways he was able to make us smile.

"Glee was a gift to all of us. It gave us a family in this industry. We really cut out teeth and grew up on this show. In playing underdogs, we learned that we had dug into the hearts of our viewers and that we could stay there.

"Cory is so deserving of that place in everyone's hearts. He was one of the most generous and kind people that I have ever met. He had a smart, curious mind, he was an enormous talent. He was loving to not only me, but my family.

"My heart goes out to his family, to Lea, to everyone that is struggling with the loss of our friend. We will miss you Cory. We will always carry a piece of you with us."
