Chelsea Clinton pregnant: 'She or he will grow up in world full of strong female leaders'

Chelsea Clinton is pregnant with her first child and her father, former US President Bill Clinton couldn’t be more thrilled.

The 34-year-old’s announcement prompted her dad to take to his social networking account and tell over 1.78million followers that he was to become a grandfather. The politician proudly told users of the micro-blogging website that he would be updating the biography on his account, which he hasn’t had the chance to do yet.

Chelsea has been in a relationship with investment banker Marc Mezvinsky since 2010.

"Marc and I are so thrilled to be expecting our first child in the fall! Thank you for all of the kind words!", she exclaimed on Twitter.

Chelsea calls herself "Mom to Soren" but the little one is actually just her Yorkshire terrier dog.

That evening she had been enjoying time with actress America Ferrera – whose birthday it is today – at the Clinton Foundation's No Ceilings conversation which was hosted by Lower East Side Girls Club New York.

"I just hope that I will be as good a mom to my child and hopefully children as my mom was to me," she said at the event. A spokesman for the family said the baby is due this autumn.

"I certainly feel all the better — whether it’s a boy or girl — that she or he will grow up in a world full of so many strong, young female leaders, so thank you for inspiring future generations, including the one that we’ll be lucky enough to welcome into our family later this year," Chelsea said.
