He was once known as the bad boy of Hollywood, but 38-year-old Colin Farrell is in a different place now. The star admitted that years have gone by since he last went on a date. "I have not dated for, ooh, four years now. It's just not happening, what with the work, the kids and my life," he told The Sunday Times.

Colin - who in the past was romantically linked to actresses including Angelina Jolie and Demi Moore, and pop star Britney Spears - added: "I know it's not what people expect to hear, but that's the honest truth."

The star of the second series of True Detective, set to air on HBO in June, has two children from previous relationships. He told the newspaper that he would rather spend time with his boys, James, 11, and Henry, age five.

"It's not all about you any more, which is a relief," Colin explained of having his children in his life. "It's about a bigger world, and helping them find their place in it. It's not about 'me, me, me, the loudmouth' any more - and that takes the pressure off me to live up to those old expectations."

In December 2013, Colin appeared on The Ellen DeGeneres Show and revealed that he considered the late actress Elizabeth Taylor as his "last kind-of-romantic relationship". The Irish star first met Elizabeth at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center after Colin ran into her manager at the lifts.

"I said, 'Will you tell her I said hello, she probably won't know who I am.' And they go, 'No, she knows who you are,' and I went, 'Wow, cool. Well, tell her I said hello and I wish her the best,' and they said, 'Will do'," Colin happily recalled to Ellen.

The pair then later exchanged flowers and Colin said his publicist made some calls and, "I got to have an audience with her and that was the beginning of a year-and-a-half or two years of what was a really cool... it was kind of like the last — it feels like in my head, not her, I'm projecting, but the last kind of romantic relationship I had.

"Which was never consummated," he was quick to add. "I wanted to be number eight, but we ran out of road," laughed Colin, in reference to the men Elizabeth married.
