Bristol Palin's wedding to former US Marine Dakota Meyer has been cancelled, five days before it was due to take place, her mother Sarah Palin has confirmed in a Facebook post. "Bristol and Dakota couldn't be more thankful for the love and support of family and friends over the past months while preparing for their wedding," the former governor of Alaska wrote.
"They have informed loved ones that unfortunately the announced celebration planned for 23 May will not be held."

Sarah, 51, added that the two families would still come together on that day for a BBQ in Kentucky, where there wedding was due to be held, to "celebrate life in general".
Bristol, who is a mother to six-year-old son Tripp, announced her engagement to Dakota two months ago, posting a snapshot showing off her beautiful diamond ring. "Truly the luckiest girl in the world, cannot wait to marry this man!!!" she wrote alongside the photo, which shows her kissing the former soldier.
In recent weeks, however, the couple have been plagued by reports that Medal of Honour recipient Dakota, 26, had been hiding a previous marriage – something Bristol has denied.

In a note included in her mum's announcement about the cancelled wedding, the 24-year-old addressed the reports about her fiancé. "Regarding salacious headlines in recent days about 'secret wives', Dakota and I discussed our past relationships prior to our engagement," Bristol said. "Dakota was legally divorced years ago, as any good reporter could and should have disclosed to readers.
"As usual, false stories and dramatically written headlines begging controversy should be disregarded, and we have faith that our privacy will be respected at this time by those with decency. Thank you!"
Neither Bristol nor Sarah have confirmed whether the couple have ended their engagement or if the wedding has simply been moved to a different date.
