Emma Roberts and Evan Peters reportedly call off engagement

Wedding bells won't soon be ringing for American Horror Story stars Emma Roberts and Evan Peters, according to new reports. The couple, who have been together since 2012, are said to have called off their engagement over a year after they announced their intention to tie the knot.

"Their three years together just ran its course," Just Jared reported a source as saying on Friday. "They have so many great memories together but couldn't make it work in the end.

"The breakup was amicable," the insider added. "There was no drama whatsoever. Emma and Evan are even still friends!"

Emma Roberts and Evan Peters have reportedly called off their engagement

Us Weekly reported that one of the reasons for the split was the couple's multiple work commitments, saying "their schedules were at odds."

Representatives for 28-year-old Evan and 24-year-old Emma have yet to confirm that their engagement is over and neither star has referenced the news on their social media sites.

Emma, who is Oscar-winning actress Julia Roberts' niece, first met Evan when they were both starring in the indie film Adult World in 2012.

Emma and Evan have been together since 2012

In January 2014 it was reported that the couple had got engaged after Missouri-born Evan popped the question with a pink gold and diamond ring while the pair were in New York City over the Christmas period.

Emma and Evan jetted off to London to ring in the New Year, later returning to New Orleans where Emma was spotted flashing the diamond ring as she landed at the airport.

News of the engagement came just six months after Emma was arrested for reportedly attacking her beau in a Montreal hotel in July 2013.

The actress allegedly left Evan with a bloody nose after an incident of "domestic violence". Emma was not charged with any crime after Evan dropped the charges, and hours after news of her arrest broke, she was pictured weeping in her boyfriend's arms.

Emma's aunt is Julia Roberts

"Emma is very dramatic, she gets wound up during arguments," a source told Us Weekly of the couple's relationship. "When they are good, they are crazy in love.

"Their romance is pretty extreme. They just behave in a way that's very passionate."

Emma previously spoke to Nylon about her views on marriage and romance, saying: "I come from the school of getting married once. Every relationship should be important.

"Everyone kind of rolls their eyes at me," she added. "But I still believe in the romantic movie outcome."
