Six weeks after they ended their engagement, Charlize Theron and Sean Penn reunited this week in South Africa to film re-shoots for their movie The Last Face. The former couple were photographed looking serious as they got down to business on the Cape Town set – Charlize, 39, as the lead actress and Sean at the helm as director.
Charlize and 54-year-old Sean split in June after dating for about a year and a half. Their breakup came as a big shock to fans given that, in separate interviews, both had proclaimed the other to be the love of their life.

Sean used that phrase to describe Charlize in an interview with Le Parisien, and Charlize later said the same in the June issue of Elle magazine – although she also admitted that filming The Last Face had taken its toll.
"There were moments where I was incredibly unfair to him," she said. "And moments where I felt like… he was incredibly unfair to me. But it makes you realise that no matter how complicated it gets, the priority is the relationship."
The couple – who had been friends for nearly 20 years before they started dating in December 2013 - were almost inseparable during their romance, often spending time with the actress' three-year-old son Jackson.
One of their final appearances together was on the red carpet in Cannes, where they seemed very much in love. A few days later, they were seen deep in conversation, with Sean's arm wrapped tightly around the actress.
According to reports, it was Charlize who ended the relationship. "Charlize wasn't responding to his calls and texts," an insider told US Weekly of the Mad Max: Fury Road star. "She just cut it off."
