When Ben Affleck was snapped holding hands with Sienna Miller on the set of his new film, the rumour mill went into overdrive. But any fans hoping that a new romance is on the cards may be disappointed.

A source tells E! News, "He is directing her and his movie - a movie in which he stars in. So while they not only share scenes, he directs her." They added: "He also directs others in this movie, [but] no one seems to be interested in those photos with him and his male co-stars."

Ben and Sienna were spotted holding hands on set for their new film

The photos show the two getting close on set of their new film Live by Night in Los Angeles with Sienna, 33, in costume and her hair decked out in a Twenties-esque style, while Ben kept it casual in jeans and a bobble hat.

Rumours were heightened as both Ben, 43, and Sienna have split from their significant others in the last year. The Argo star separated from Jennifer Garner after ten years of marriage, announcing their separation a day after their tenth wedding anniversary.

Sienna split from Tom Sturridge in July

Releasing a joint statement, the pair wrote: "After much thought and careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to divorce. We go forward with love and friendship for one another and a commitment to co-parenting our children whose privacy we ask to be respected during this difficult time. This will be our only comment on this private, family matter. Thank you for understanding."

The estranged couple have remained amicable since and have put their three children Violet, nine, Seraphina, six, and three-year-old Samuel first.

Ben and Jennifer have remained friends since their separation

Sienna suffered her own heartbreak this year when she and fiancé Tom Sturridge split after four years together. The Layer Cake star and Tom began dating in 2011 and got engaged the following year after announcing they were expecting their first child, Marlowe, together.

Rumours of their split was confirmed by a source of The Sun: "It's a very amicable break-up and they intend to remain great friends."

The Good Will Hunting actor is writing, directing and starring in the upcoming American crime film based on the 2012 novel of the same name. Also produced by Leonardo DiCaprio, it's set in the 1920s an tells the tale of a Boston police captain's prodigal son, Joe Coughlin, played by Ben. The film is due for release on October 7 2016, allowing Ben more time to appear in his role as Batman.
