As Louisiana begins the journey of recovering from the devastating flood that killed at least 11 and left tens of thousands homeless, Taylor Swift is doing everything she can to aid the US state. She has donated more than £760,000 to the relief effort and is urging others to get involved.

In a statement released to Associated Press, the 26-year-old explained: "We began the 1989 tour in Louisiana, and the wonderful fans there made us feel completely at home. The fact that so many people in Louisiana have been forced out of their homes this week is heartbreaking."

The National Weather Service called the rainstorm which covered much of southern Louisiana in water a "1,000 year" disaster. It didn't arrive with a fanfare and instead crept up on the residents, taking several days to build up.

Taylor added: "I encourage those who can to help out and send your love and prayers their way during this devastating time."

It's thought more than 30,000 people have been rescued from the flood, a number that is growing by the hour.

A group of people known as the Cajun Navy have been navigating Louisiana's new waterways to save people and animals, after answering requests for help. More than 40,000 homes have been impacted by the deadly floods and the full entirety of damage is still unknown.
