Although he became engaged last November, Ricky Martin has revealed he has no immediate plans to get married to boyfriend Jwan Yosef. The 45-year-old, who has been in a relationship with his partner since 2015, is preparing to kick off his Las Vegas residency later this month. When asked if he would pay a trip to the famous Little White Chapel, the singer told ET: "We're going to elope and then let's see what happens. I always dreamt of a three-day wedding. I don't know what's going to happen! Let's see."
Gushing about his romance, Ricky went on to describe Jwan as a "really good friend." He explained: "You find that friend that you look at each other without words, you know exactly what you need and what you're thinking. It's a lot of fun." Speaking about his level of fame compared to his partner, the star added: "This is a whole new world for my fiance, really. He's a conceptual painter and we're both creative, but this is a different monster. He has learned from me and I learn from him. It's been a really cool dynamic."
Ricky, who is a dad to eight-year-old twins Valentino and Matteo, was previously in a five-year relationship with stockbroker Carlos Gonzalez, but they split in January 2014. During an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show in November, Ricky opened up about how he met the artist and how they quickly fell in love. "I saw his art and I went crazy because I really love what he does. Really original. And I contacted him and then I collected him," Ricky told Ellen, adding: "And we just got engaged."
The Puerto Rican singer then revealed that it was him who had popped the question. He said: "I proposed. I was really nervous, but I got on my knees and I took out the little, not a box, I just had them in a little velvet pouch and instead of saying, 'Will you marry me?' I said, 'I got you something!' Bad! And then he was like, 'Yes?' I said, 'I want to spend my life with you,' and he was like, 'What is the question?' 'Would you marry me?' That's it… It was very beautiful. And then like 30 minutes after, I said, 'Wait, did you say yes?' Yes, he said yes."
