Simon Thomas has shared a heartbreaking photo of his son standing by his mother's coffin. The Sky Sports presenter, 44, laid his wife Gemma to rest on Friday, two weeks after she tragically lost her battle with cancer. His wife died of leukaemia at the age of 40 just three days after being diagnosed. Alongside the touching picture, Simon wrote: "I think this photo from Thursday of my boy with his biggest cheerleader his cousin Thomas behind him, says so much about what an immeasurable amount mummy put into his life in those eight short years." He also added the hashtags, #brave and #lightinthedarkness.

Simon's followers immediately rushed to post comments, praising his son's bravery. "I feel very sorry for your lost, especially for your boy but you will get through this," wrote one fan, while another added: "What a truly beautiful photo of such a sad occasion. He is so brave and I'm sure Gemma will always be right by your sides! He's a wonderful boy because he has amazing beautiful parents." A third post read: "Gorgeous boy, you must be so proud. His mummy will look over him forever."
Grieving Simon and his eight-year-old son Ethan were left in shock when Gemma passed away last month. She visited her GP complaining of feeling unwell just a week prior to her diagnosis. At the time of her death, Simon asked his followers to keep their grief-stricken son in their prayers. "Today I am crushed with indescribable pain," the Sky Sports anchor told his Twitter followers at the time. "Just three days after falling ill with Acute Myloid Leukaemia, my dear wife Gemma passed away yesterday evening surrounded by her family and friends." He added: "If you are a prayer - pray for my boy Ethan. 8yrs, precious and in bits. Thank you."
