Top bridal designers showed off their latest collections this week, and by the looks of it, popular trends from the prêt-a-porter catwalk are apparently just as perfect for a walk down the aisle this autumn.
Miniskirts seen on this season's runway are also a bridal option, while the ribbons that were a Carolina Herrera ready-to-wear must-have are also included on her ultra-feminine wedding gowns. Meanwhile, the Japanese obi-belts, which seem to be ubiquitous this year, were given a twist by Vera Wang.
Unusual fabrics are also hot, with Reem Acra presenting a mohair bustier and coat. Fur has also made a return, for everything from capes to handbags, pointed out Bride's magazine editor Millie Martini Bratten. "This was a strong season for using fur for shrugs, collars and cuffs," she said. "And it worked for those brides who wanted to cover up their arms or just add some unique element to their gowns."
But the modern yet traditional bride can rest easy – timeless elements, including beading, open threadwork lace, tulle and cathedral trains, seemed to dominate the collections. "The celebration of the ideal female form was emphasised by soft fabric and decorated veils for that iconic look," said Bratten. "This was a very classic season."
