A-list ladies take a step back in time

It's been a colourful few days in the world of celebrity style, with famous faces on both sides of the Atlantic making some very definite Sixties-inspired fashion statements.

Princess Laurentien of the Netherlands turned heads when she stepped out in a vibrant, multi-coloured maternity dress on Queen´s Day at the weekend. Prince Constantijn's pretty wife, who is seven months' pregnant, easily outshone more staidly-dressed guests with her collage of orange, yellow and green shades.

Across the North Sea in Sweden, meanwhile, one of her fellow Scandinavians was making an equally psychedelic impression. Given the fact she first found fame with the iconic disco band Abba, it shouldn't have come as a big surprise when Anni Frid Lyngstad arrived for King Carl Gustaf's 60th birthday celebrations in an eye-catching combination of red and pink hues that had many of the country's fashionistas exclaiming "Mamma Mia!".

And Europe's royal revellers weren't the only ones taking a step back in time. Silver screen veteran Sigourney Weaver likewise decided to go retro, with a patterned blue and pink coat that owed more than a little to the days of flower power chic, when she arrived for the premiere of her latest film The TV Set at the Tribeca Film Festical.
