Mick Jagger 'shocked and devastated' by girlfriend's suicide

Mick Jagger is "shocked and devastated" by the news that his girlfriend L'Wren Scott has committed suicide, a spokersperson for the star told ABC News Radio.

The rock legend is on tour with the Rolling Stones in Australia. "Great to be back In Australia! Looking forward to the first show in Perth," he tweeted just three hours before the news broke.

The band, whose Australian tour was supposed to officially kick off on Wednesday, took to Twitter to post a photo of themselves this morning standing on the tarmac in front of their private jet, which bears the band's trademark tongue logo.

"Mick, Keith, Charlie and Ronnie have just landed in Australia! See you at #StonesPerth on Wednesday!" the caption read.

The band are in the country for their 14 On Fire six-show stadium tour of Australia, which they announced on December 4 last year.

According to the New York Post, fashion designer L'Wren Scott was found in her Manhattan apartment on Monday morning.

The 49-year-old was found by her assistant inside the Eighth Floor apartment around 10am New York time. There was no immediate suspicion of foul play.

Fans were puzzled to see that her official Twitter account had been updated at 11am, just one hour after her body was reportedly found.

However, it's likely to be a member of her team – designers often put their social network accounts in the hands of their employees.

L'Wren was scheduled to show her new collection at London Fashion Week last month, but she pulled out just one week before. An official statement revealed that production delays had meant that key pieces would not be ready in time
