Fashion Police star George Kotsiopoulos on Duchess Kate's style

George Kotsiopoulos critiques style for a living but the Fashion Police star reveals that he has no criticisms of the Duchess of Cambridge.

"Kate dresses appropriately for who she is, she always look impeccable. It’s never too trendy, just very classic", admitted George in an exclusive interview with HELLO! Online.

He added: "I was looking at pictures of Diana in the 1980s and the crazy clothes she was wearing with the big poofed shoulders - fashionable at the time but I don’t think we’ll look back on Kate’s photos, 20 or 30 years from now, and think of how specific it is to a time."

George is part of the Fashion Police panel and is gearing up for the Emmy Special, airing on Wednesday 28th August. He admits that this year's show has crept up on him: "They’re early so it’s been hectic, and we have Fashion Police at New York Fashion Week right after."

In the run up to the Emmys Special though, there's been a lot of other fashion styling to ruminate on - and Julia Roberts has gone and confused George.

"I was thinking she would go low key [to the Emmys] but now I’m not sure. She wore this beautiful Valentino jumpsuit to the creative Emmys... she could have worn that to the Emmys!" he laughs.

George and his co-stars Joan Rivers, Kelly Osbourne, and Guiliana Rancic, analyse and critique over 50 dresses a week, George guesses, and he admits that it's impossible to pick favourites.

"I’m immune to the beauty!" he laughs.

He adds, thoughtfully: "The red carpet has become something that it wasn’t before, it’s so prevalent, everyone is talking about red carpet with the abundance of looks."

The 45-year-old stylist and magazine editor has been with the show since its creation in 2010, and has seen a lot of styling. When asked who he thinks always gets it right on the red carpet his answer is definitive."

Jennifer Lopez always look great – it’s rare to see her ever get anything wrong.

"I think that comes with experience, and knowing what looks good on you, and knowing what hair and make up to use for outfits. She’s been doing this a lot longer than the younger girls, but she’s still doing it in a way that makes her fresh and youthful, she looks good and sexy, she’s a freak of nature!", he exclaims.

"I don’t know how she’s doing this."

However, when George starts talking about fashion, he doesn't want to stop.

"Look at someone like Sandra Bullock who is turning 50, and she looks incredible! Another freak of nature! To think that Sandra Bullock is at least five or six years younger than Madonna is incredible", he continues.

"And Rihanna. She can wear the craziest outfits that anybody else would put on and they would look like idiots, but she manages to pull it off - and it’s a testament to her having great style and confidence."

But she sells it – even if it’s ugly I want to buy it.

"George spent eight years working at the New York Times style magazine T before becoming a fashion expert on TV for shows including Good Morning America, Access Hollywood, and E! He has previously spoken of his concern at joining a fashion programme where he would need to be critical, but he tells HELLO!: "I know I’m on a show that critiques fashion but I really don’t focus on the people because I’m a stylist."

I’m cheering for everyone to look great. I want women to look beautiful and I want men to look well-tailored, and as long as they’re trying... It’s the ones that don’t try, I’m like 'seriously?'"Take Julia Roberts and Angelina Jolie as examples. There was a stage in their lives, maybe when they were new mothers and their focus wasn’t on fashion, but they’ve both turned a corner - Angelina Jolie is giving us more fashion than she’s ever given us before. Collaborations with Stella McCartney and Christian Louboutin, where did that come from?"If George is a fan of the Duchess of Cambridge, HELLO! wonders what he thinks of London fashion in general.

"I feel like people from London have a little romance going with people from LA, they’re very similar. Folks from London love it here because of the same matching sensibilities, fun with fashion as opposed to New York where it’s more serious.

"In London there’s a lot of use of colour. Plus London Fashion Week is exploding – it’s always been relevant but now it's major!"

And what about the ultimate styling client?" Emma Stone would be so much fun to work with – that’s any stylist’s dream client. A young, beautiful girl in her 20s who can get any single article or accessory when she wants it. "See it on a runway? She wants it? They’ll send a plane with the dress the next day, and that’s a stylists dream because you can have whatever you want."

The conversation slides back round to confidence in styling. HELLO! ask if there is anyone who could possibly be doing better on the red carpet, but George is hesitant to answer.

"Nothing I say is anything that I wouldn’t say to their faces if they asked me", George concedes."

The truth is, in person, they are all beautiful, they look gorgeous, it's just they may not photograph well. And sometimes they don’t care – Kirsten Dunst doesn’t care if her dress photographs well, but in that moment, she knows she looks beautiful.

"Lena Dunham, she doesn’t always look great but she tries and she is confident and she is into it and she looks happy, so while sometimes things look good and sometimes they don’t, it doesn’t matter because she looks happy, and that’s what it comes down to. As long as she is happy."

George pauses for thought, before adding: "The ones that wear the craziest clothes, you love it. "They don’t photograph well but they’re beautiful; pieces of art. It’s part of the job to look beautiful."

George will be live from the red carpet at The 2014 Primetime Emmy Awards, Monday 25th August @ 11pm Fashion Police: Emmy Award will air  Wednesday 28th August @ 9pm
