ALEX KINGSTON TO STAR AS LEGENDARY WARRIOR QUEEN BOADICEA

Best known as the feisty British surgeon on popular American hospital drama ER, English actress Alex Kingston is to swap her green scrubs for warrior garb in a new ITV film about legendary Queen Boadicea.

The 38-year-old star, who relocated to the US following the break-up of her marriage to The English Patient actor Ralph Fiennes four years ago, will return to her native UK this summer to start filming. She currently lives in Los Angeles with her German journalist husband Florian Haertel, whom she married in 1998, and their ten-month-old daughter, Salome.

Alex’s casting as the leader of a local tribe who took on the might of the Roman Empire is seen as a major coup by the independent production company Box TV, which hopes to cash in on the success of Ridley Scott’s Gladiator. Boadicea raised a rebellion against the occupying imperial army after Roman troops disregarded her late husband’s gesture of loyalty in requesting half his kingdom to Nero. Led by his widow, the Iceni unleashed devastating and now legendary attacks against Roman strongholds. The TV movie will be screened on both sides of the Atlantic.
