More than 20 years ago, the popular ITV miniseries Brideshead Revisited helped launch the career of British actor Jeremy Irons as it captivated viewers the world over. And now Hollywood producers plan to revisit Brideshead, with a cast headed up by a pair of film's hottest properties, Jude Law and Colin Farrell.

"We've got the pick of all the best young actors in the world for the two main characters," producer Douglas Rae told the Daily Express. "The ideal casting would be Colin Farrell and Jude Law. They are two of the most beautiful looking men in the world."

Film bosses think that Jude would be the perfect actor to take on the role of gay aristocrat Sebastian Flyte, played by Anthony Andrews in the 1981 original, while they have Colin in mind to bring Army officer Charles Ryder – Jeremy Irons' character – to life.

A script for the adaptation of the 1920s-set Evelyn Waugh novel is currently being developed by Pride And Prejudice screenwriter Andrew Davies. Welsh-born Davies's credits also include The Tailor Of Panama, Circle Of Friends and Bridget Jones's Diary, for which he received a BAFTA nomination.
