Daniel makes solitary but buff Bond

He may still be lacking both a romantic interest and an adversary, but one thing new Bond actor Daniel Craig wasn't missing as he kicked off filming on his first 007 flick, was a suitably heroic physique.

Snapped during a lunch break on the Prague set of Casino Royale, the blue-eyed Layer Cake actor had clearly been buffing up in preparation for tackling global baddies.

Despite rumours that the first few days of filming involve some brutal fight scenes, the production's bad guys have yet to be cast. The British actor has also embarked upon his new role without knowing which Bond babe he's set to get up close and personal with.

Apparently, producers of the 21st episode of the spy franchise have been unable to persuade any of Tinseltown's top names to step into the shoes of the spy's original love interest, Vesper Lynd. According to reports Angelina Jolie, Charlize Theron, Scarlett Johansson and Naomi Watts have all passed on the chance, while Canadian actress Rachel McAdams, Crash's Thandie Newton and Rose Byrne of Wicker Park remain in the running.

Perhaps a glimpse of Daniel's newly beefed-up frame, along with next month's location shift to the Bahamas, will persuade one of them to sign on the dotted line.

Casino Royale is set to premiere in mid-November 2006.
