David Tennant to return for Broadchurch season two

David Tennant will return for the second series of ITV's hit murder mystery, Broadchurch, it has been confirmed.

And the former Doctor Who actor, who played Detective Inspector Alec Hardy, will be joined by Olivia Colman, otherwise known as his crime-solving partner, Detective Sergeant Ellie Miller.

It just gets better for fans of the crime series, which was ITV's biggest drama hit since Downton Abbey and the most popular new midweek drama hit for a decade – Jodie Whittaker and Andrew Buchan, who played murdered school boy Danny's parents Beth and Mark Latimer, will also take up their roles for the sequel. Arthur Darvill will also reappear as local vicar Paul Coates.

broadchurch second series

The first series had the entire nation on the edge of their sofa over the death of Danny Latimer, whose body was found at the foot of a cliff on the picturesque Dorset coast.

But viewers will have to wait and see what unfolds this time around, as creator and writer Chris Chibnall and his team maintain their silence over what's to come.

"We're delighted Broadchurch is back in production, but we're remaining tight-lipped about how the story develops," ITV's director of drama, Steve November, said. "Suffice to say Chris has delivered as always and the scripts are just as exciting as the first series."

"The reaction to Broadchurch from UK viewers has been incredible," added executive producer Jane Featherstone, "so we'd like viewers to enjoy the new series knowing as little as possible about what's to come and for the story to unfold in real time."

Not since the shooting of JR Ewing in Dallas had a whodunnit so gripped the imagination as the final nail-biting episodes of the first series, when even the cast themselves remained in the dark until the final possible moment.
