Ed Balls has revealed that his dancing partner Katya Jones has strongly recommended he use fake tan for the Strictly Come Dancing, leading him to open up about how far the competition has taken him out of his comfort zone.

The former MP, who joked about his "dad moves" during the opening show, chatted to the Telegraph about his training so far, and how the fake tan is an "imperative." He said: "I'm a bit squeamish, but my partner, Katya, says it's imperative. I am so far outside my comfort zone. Every time I hit a barrier of what I think is socially acceptable, I have to make another leap."

Ed revealed his dancing partner Katya wants him to get a fake tan

The politician revealed that he has attempted to avoid the show's usual bold outfits, saying: "There have been so many times when I've said to someone, 'I can't do that. It's too camp,'" he said. "The reply is, 'This is Strictly. Nothing can ever be too camp.'"

However, the father-of-three has admitted there are some positives from the show, particularly the men's dance attire. He said: "I've discovered why people's shirts don't fall out on the show. You stitch them on to your boxers so that your shirt and pants are all one garment.

The former MP opened up about the show

"I'm going to wear one for the rest of my life. It solves a fundamental problem."

Ed previously spoke about his "dad moves" on the show's opening night, and how watching the episode back was "traumatic."  Speaking on BBC's Andrew Marr Show, he said: "I am not sure which was more traumatic, my dad moves, which look rather more dad like than I expected, or the pictures of me with all these sparkling celebrities, and me looking like the person who is going to serve the drinks in this bow tie."
