True crime fans on the hunt for your next TV obsession, look no further than Netflix's latest release, A Toxic Love Story.

The new film, which already boasts a perfect score on Rotten Tomatoes' Tomatometer, tells the astounding story of deputy US marshal Ian Diaz and his new partner Angela Connell.

Following a whirlwind romance, the couple moved in together and were expecting twins when Angela began receiving menacing emails from a mysterious address known as 'Lilithistruth.' The pair initially pointed the finger at Ian's ex-fiancée, but the investigation ultimately unveiled a shocking revenge plot filled with unexpected twists.

What is A Toxic Love Story about? 

The scandal unfolded in a glamorous Californian suburb, where newlywed woman Angela began receiving threatening emails from a mysterious address, Lilithistruth – and all clues pointed to one person: her husband's ex Michelle.

Viewers have described the story as "shocking" and "wild"

But after she was arrested, charged with stalking and harassment, and held in jail for 88 days, it became increasingly clear that Michelle was the real victim.

The official logline reads: "In a glamorous California suburb, a young woman's arrest for a violent fantasy plot against her ex-boyfriend's new wife becomes a sensational scandal, but the truth remains hidden behind a sophisticated web of deception. As the investigation peels back layers of betrayal, it becomes unclear who is the true victim and who is the villain in a game where everyone is playing a part."

What have viewers said about A Toxic Love Story? 

Viewers who tuned into the documentary were in disbelief over the "shocking" story. Taking to social media, one person wrote: "I don't know how Netflix does this, but each documentary just gets crazier and crazier," while another described the film as a "wild ride".

Michelle Hadley was accused of sending the threatening emails

A third viewer penned: "Audience: it can't get crazier than this. Netflix: hold my drink," while another said they were "flabbergasted" by the tale. 

What happened to Michelle, Ian and Angela?

After tracing the IP address for Lilithistruth, the police found that the emails had come from Angela and Ian's home.

The charges against Michelle were dropped in 2017, and Ian and Angela were arrested.

"This has been a huge nightmare for me. Probably the most traumatic experience of my life," said Michelle, standing outside an Orange County courthouse.

Ian and Angela are now divorced.

Ian was sentenced to ten years in prison

Ian was sentenced to ten years and one month in prison for conspiracy to commit cyberstalking, cyberstalking, perjury and obstruction of justice. Meanwhile, Angela pleaded guilty to ten felony counts and was sentenced to five years in prison.
