Although it's been four years, we're still mourning the end of ITV's hit long-running medical drama, Doc Martin, which came to a close after ten seasons in 2022. Thankfully, the Yorkshire-set family drama, The Chase, has arrived on the free streaming service STV Player to fill the gap.

Created by Kay Mellor (Fat Friends, The Syndicate), The Chase follows the lives of a family who own a busy veterinary practice in Yorkshire. When their dad announces his retirement, Sarah leaves London and returns home to Yorkshire to take over the business with her sister, Anna.

Described as a "forgotten gem," the show aired on the BBC for two seasons between 2006 and 2007, and features a cast of familiar faces, including Gaynor Faye, Sunetra Sarker and Nicholas Gleaves.

Promising plenty of high-stress medical emergencies, messy family feuds and romantic dramas, The Chase is perfect for any fan of cosy, British TV.

What is The Chase about?

Set in a struggling veterinary practice in Yorkshire, the series follows a family of vets in the fictional local community of Oxley.

George Williams heads the practice with his daughter Anna and her husband Tom, while his second daughter Sarah has lived in London since the death of their mother – and the discovery of Tom in a compromising situation with one of the surgery nurses, Fiona.

The official BBC synopsis continues: "But George has found a new wife, Claudie (Michelle Holmes) and at the wedding reception he announces his retirement, leaving an eight-month pregnant Anna with a struggling business, an estranged sister, one vet down, one vet defecting to the local opposition and a list of operations as long as her arm. It's enough to send a woman into labour."

Who stars in The Chase?

Gaynor Faye, the actress daughter of creator Kay Mellor, known for her roles in Emmerdale and The Inheritance, plays Anna, while Nicola Stephenson (The Walk-In, Waterloo Road) plays Sarah.
