Paramount+ has unveiled a first look at its upcoming thriller, The Day, starring Minnie Driver as a hostage negotiator – and it's going straight on my watchlist.
Based on the 2018 Belgian series De Dag, the eight-part drama unfolds across a single, gripping day, as police officers stumble across a bank robbery mid-heist.
© Paramount + (UK)Not only is the cast list seriously impressive, with Luca Pasqualino (Rivals, The Musketeers) and Louisa Harland (Renegade Nell, Derry Girls) starring alongside Minnie, but the series comes from the team behind compelling thrillers like The Ex-Wife, Cooper & Fry, and The Game.
If the first-look photos are anything to go by, viewers are in for a tense watch. The new images showcase Minnie in action as hostage negotiator Sylvia 'Vox' Voxley, alongside Luca as a gun-wielding bank robber named Luke. Meanwhile, Louisa appears to portray a terrified hostage, pictured dripping in sweat with what looks like a detonator strapped around her neck.

What is The Day about?
Penned by Ben Harris (Marcella, Young Wallander) and Jesse O'Mahoney (The Castaways), the series follows hostage negotiator Sylvia 'Vox' Voxley in the race against time to save hostages caught up in a bank robbery.
The synopsis reads: "When police stumble across a bank robbery mid-heist, the criminals barricade themselves inside, and a terrifying siege begins. The series opens from the police perspective, led by hostage negotiator Sylvia 'Vox' Voxley (Minnie Driver), as she battles time and rising pressure to save the hostages. But as the crisis hurtles towards breaking point, the story rewinds - pulling viewers inside the bank to relive the same events through the eyes of the robbers and their hostages."

So far, only Minnie Driver (Emily in Paris, Runaway), Luca Pasqualino (Rivals, The Musketeers) and Louisa Harland (Renegade Nell, Derry Girls) have been confirmed in the cast list.
