Alicia Silverstone gets her "best hair" by washing her tresses just before bedtime. The actress rose to fame as Cher Horowitz in 1995's Clueless, with her preppy outfits and long blonde hair sparking an array of trends. While Alicia still maintains her signature hairstyle, she admits she takes a low maintenance approach to hair care in general.

"Getting my best hair is like playing Russian roulette," she told The New York Times. "Basically, I wash my hair and sleep on it. Some days it works, and some days I have really freaky bad hair. For shampoo and conditioner, I've been using Giovanni for so many years. I love the 50/50 Balanced and the Root 66. They smell really good and work well, too."

Alicia Silverstone has shared her beauty secrets

Alicia is a noted animal rights and environmental activist and has followed a vegan diet since 1998. Accordingly, the 41-year-old is careful to use hair and skin products which align with her philosophies. "When I'm choosing products, they have to be completely natural, vegan and not use chemical ingredients. Then they also have to smell great and work great," the star said, adding that she uses Goddess Garden Organics Erase the Day cleanser and a Clarisonic brush as part of her regular regime.

When it comes to moisturiser, Alicia seeks out oil-based products such as Pai's Rosehip BioRegenerate Oil and Josh Rosebrook Active Infusion Serum. But the mother-of-one feels that her best skincare tip is to avoid caking on cosmetics whenever she's off-duty. "I very, very rarely put make-up on if I'm not working. But if I'm going out to dinner, like I am tonight, I'll put some on. Ecco Bella has a really good concealer for under the eyes. I don't use allover foundation," she added.
