From chic buns and low ponytails to long flowing curls and straight silky locks, The Duchess of Cambridge has undergone many a different hairstyle over the past 12 months. Always polished to perfection, long gone are the days when the Duchess would be photographed with long straggly hair and outdated styles. Now, she is an image of sophistication and her thick and healthy locks make her the ultimate hair icon.

At the start of the year Duchess Kate’s hair was long and extremely thick. Seen here at The Heads Together press launch on Jan 17 in London with a slightly off-centered parting and bouncy curls, her locks looked in beautiful condition.

At a visit in January to the Anna Freud Centre in London, the Duchess wore her hair in a chic and very feminine style, half pinned up at the sides. Her long flowing hair looked absolutely stunning and pinned back off her face showed off her elegant earrings.

This is one of her most exquisite hairstyles of the year which she wore when photographed at the Service of Hope at Westminster Abbey in April this year. Duchess Kate's hair was pulled up into a loose up do which gave it a bob-like appearance but allowed her hat to sit on her head on a tilt.

It was quite rare this year to see the Duchess of Cambridge with straight hair but at the Virgin Money London Marathon in April she wore it hanging loose. Although it does have a slight wave and bounce to it, this hairstyle looked a lot more casual than we are used to seeing on Duchess Kate.

With her hair swept half back and a very slight backcombed look on top this is Duchess Cambridge at her best. The Duchess of Cambridge wore this extremely feminine style on a visit to the V&A Museum in June.

Long, curly and with a middle parting the Duchess of Cambridge is seen here at the Wimbledon Tennis Championships in July. Her long floaty curls looked striking against her white summer dress, making her hair look in tip top condition.

With an off-centre parting, the Duchess of Cambridge looked simply stunning on this July visit to the Brandenburg Gate in Berlin. The low chignon showed off her delicate features and gave her a very respectable look on her visit to Germany.

Mention must be given to this style which you can see briefly showing underneath her white hat. Another low chignon, the Duchess of Cambridge oozed chicness in July at the 100th Anniversary of Passchendaele - Third Battle of Ypres in Belgium.

Fetching a rather low key hairstyle here, Duchess Kate wore her hair in a ponytail at a visit to Aston Villa Football Club to see the work of the Coach Core programme last month. The laid back hairstyle really suits her and was a perfect look for the sporty event.

A lot shorter than normal it is obvious here Duchess Kate has undergone a haircut leaving her hair looking shiny and pristine. The thick bouncy curls are very noticeable in this style she wore to the Royal Variety Performance at the Palladium Theatre last month.
