Kelly Clarkson has announced she is expecting her second child with husband Brandon Blackstock. The Because of You singer made the announcement during a performance at the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old was performing her track Piece by Piece when she decided to share the news with her fans.

"I was not planning on announcing this," she told the crowd. "I'm totally pregnant!"

An emotional Kelly then explained to the cheering audience: "This is not how I wanted to announce [that I'm pregnant]. My make-up artist is backstage hating me. I didn't want you to think I'm on pills or something.

"I would like to apologise to my husband. This was not planned. I'm just so hormonal. Everything is great, I haven't vomited yet. That's a win y'all."

Kelly's new arrival will be a baby brother or sister for her daughter River Rose, who she welcomed in June 2014.

The singer recently revealed that she was hoping to get pregnant by the end of the year, once her touring schedule allowed her some more time to concentrate on her family.

"I do America until October, and then Canada in October, so I think we're coming here [to the UK] in November," she told Bang Showbiz. "Hopefully, because I plan on being pregnant very soon after that, so hopefully I get here!"

Kelly, who tied the knot with talent manager Brandon Blackstock in October 2013, said she was also keen not to have a big age gap between her children.

"I want them to be close together, because the other two are kind of close together, my stepkids," she said.

The former American Idol winner is stepmother to Brandon's children Seth and Savannah from his previous marriage, and together they are all one happy family.

"My kids love her," Brandon's ex-wife Melissa told People in 2013. "I couldn't ask for a better stepmother for my children."
