Surprise! Ryan Gosling and Eva Mendes welcomed a baby girl on 29 April at Providence St John’s Health Center in Santa Monica, it has been revealed. According to the birth certificate, obtained by TMZ, the proud new parents have named their second child Amada Lee Gosling.

Amada might sound familiar – it is also the middle name of their first-born daughter, Esmeralda Amada Gosling. Eva, 42, has previously spoken about the importance of the moniker – "Amada was my grandmother's name. It means 'beloved' in Spanish," the actress revealed in 2014.

Coincidentally, it is also the name of the character she played in the 2007 movie We Own The Night. According to E! News, she reportedly asked director James Gray if he would change her character's name to honour her late grandmother, whom she never met.

News of the birth comes just two weeks after it was revealed that Eva was expecting again. The couple managed to keep both pregnancies a secret for several months, with an insider explaining to People that Eva "just hasn't ever wanted anyone beyond her close friends and family knowing more than they had to. And Ryan is certainly private and always has been".

The handsome star, 35, did open up about his happy family life during a recent interview with HELLO! magazine, however.

"I know that I'm with the person I'm supposed to be with," he sweetly said, before adding that the only quality he looks for in a woman is "that she's Eva Mendes. There's nothing else I am looking for".

Eva, meanwhile, has said in the past that she wasn’t planning to get married or have children – but "with Ryan things are different", a friend told People. "She's very independent, but she's content with her partner. She has finally found the person she really wants to be with."
