Honestly, there’s nobody that Law Roach hasn’t dressed. From Celine Dion and Anya Taylor-Joy, to Priyanka Chopra, Ariana Grande,Hunter Schafer and of course his most recognisable, long term client of 13 years, Zendaya.

Last night the formidable stylist performed Hollywood’s most dramatic exit of 2023 by announcing his retirement on Instagram claiming “The politics , the lies and false narratives finally got me!”

Why is Law Roach retiring?

In a post with an image that simply contained a red and white sign saying ‘retired’, he explained to his 1.2 million followers: “My Cup is empty….. thank you to everyone who’ve [sic] supported me and my career over the years.”

The 44-year-old continued: “Every person that trusted me with their image, I’m so grateful for you all. If this business was just about the clothes I would do it for the rest of my life but unfortunately it’s not! The politics , the lies and false narratives finally got me! You win … I’m out.”

Despite his adamance that his stellar 14 year career is done with, his announcement sent the A-list into a frenzy, and fashion’s creme de la creme are determined not to see him bow out so soon.

Naomi Campbell commented under the post exclaiming “Law I won’t let you !!!! We don’t quit .. strived to hard”, whilst Christine Quinn said: “LAW but we love you”. Lisa Rinna said: Law we need you !!!! We love you!!!

Some however, particularly other designers, were more understanding of his situation, with Michael Costello commenting: I wish it was about the clothes . I love fashion so much but the false narratives destroyed my life.” and actress Niecy Nash saying: “We all come or go on our OWN terms. If you’re done because you want your next role, blessings to you…. If you’re having a “moment”, keep your main character energy! Either way: you got this!”

How did Law Roach and Zendaya meet?

The two met when Zendaya was just 14 years old in L.A. He was a personal shopper for a family friend of Zendaya’s, and she needed help getting ready for a movie premiere with nothing to wear, he told WWD. “When she was 14, she didn’t know much about fashion, and we were starting to learn about each other. And I think I had a little bit more say-so in the look,” Roach says over the phone. “But now she’s a grown woman. I think she’s grown, not only the way she chooses and collaborates with me, but in everything. She’s a woman now.”
