Nobody does pregnancy fashion like Rihanna. The legendary multi-hyphenate singer, fashion designer and beauty entrepreneur stepped out in New York City in what might just be her most iconic maternity outfit yet.
When we think of the Y2K and 2000s fashion that fashionista's are bringing back in 2023, we immediately think: sheer material, cargos, crop tops and witchy mini dresses (a la Zendaya at Coachella). But Rihanna’s take on the retro movement is quite literally 90s bad-girl personified with a masculine twist, and we are officially obsessed.
She donned a pair of dark blue wash, super baggy jeans that could easily have been taken from Ll Cool J’s wardrobe. Thankfully for RiRi, wearing her waistband below her stomach (aka 90s low-rise ) just happens to be as retro as it is comfortable. She paired with a white, wide-strapped vest tucked in (does anything say 90s hip hop like a white vest and baggy jeans?)
The Pon De Replay singer opted for a current jewellery trend and layered a gold chain choker with a long love heart pendant.
There was only one piece of footwear suitable for this look: sand coloured Timberlands. From Britney Spears to Jennifer Lopez, every 90s singer rocked a pair with every outfit imaginable. Emily Ratajkowski channelled her inner Jenny From the Block last year with a pair of camel lace-up knee boots from the brand’s collaboration with Danish stylist Veneda Carter. If you've still got a pair of these boots lying around: don't throw them away...
RiRi layered her iconic look with a brown fur coat and navy cap combo that only she could pull off. Somewhat the fur styling aficionado, it's been a go to layer for her second pregnancy, from the cool cropped fur biker jacket at her Super Bowl performance press conference in February, to the ethereal green cape gown she wore backstage at the Oscars 2023 last month.
It's going to take a lot for another A-list cool-girl to match her stellar pregnancy style.
