With London Fashion Week having wrapped, and the H! Fashion team feeling sufficiently fried from rushing around the city, we wanted to take a look back at key trends to emerge from the schedule.
The season saw several familiar faces return to the London runway, including cool-girl names like Ahluwalia, KNWLS and Chopova Lowena, which had sat out on previous seasons in favour of releasing their collections online. Their return was highly anticipated, with the brands long-established favourites among the fashion circuit for their cutting-edge, subversive creations.
Queen bee and tulle enthusiast Simone Rocha was also back on the schedule. A London Fashion Week regular, the designer’s shows are consistently among the most theatrical moments of the season, marked by pastel shades, bow detailing and bejewelled accents. Similarly, Richard Quinn and Tolu Coker also didn’t disappoint, all of which have longstanding relationships with the royal family and have welcomed VIP guests, from actors to socialites, at previous shows.
© PandoraBurberry's Daniel Lee revived the house's signature checked design topped with whimsical floral embroidery, which was modelled by Central Cee on the catwalk, while Erdem dialled up the glamour, marrying classic florals with twinkling embellishments and radiant jewel tones.
Arguably the biggest moment came from McQueen, which returned to London for the first time since Seán McGirr took the helm as creative director. Having presented in Paris since his appointment, McGirr brought the house back to its home city for a highly anticipated show. As ever with the brand, the gothic spectacle extended beyond the runway itself, with a star-studded front row adding to one of the season’s most significant moments.
Naturally, with such an impressive lineup in tow, onlookers were treated to a myriad of trends that emerged from the catwalks. From florals to clashing prints, sheer fabrics and much, much more, discover some of our favourites below.
London Fashion Week SS27 Trend Report:
Sheer
Sheer fabrics were a standout on the runways this season, with wafting tulle, organza and lace taking centre stage at shows like Simone Rocha, Agro Studios, Susan Fang and Pauline Dujancourt.
Sleep-Chic
Dreamy-eyed designers wanted to get us into bed. Sleepy-girl aesthetics, such as slinky silks, lace trims, bed jackets, bonnets and vintage-inspired nighties, peppered the catwalks this season, with thanks to Yuhan Wang, Simone Rocha, Ashley Williams and Bora Aksu.
Ultra-violet
Aqua and cherry red maybe be trending, but purple reigned supreme on the runways. Erdem, Bora Aksu, Agro Studios, Ashley Williams and Geordie Campbell were just a handful of designers to establish the hue as the hottest of the season.
Stripes
Continuing the ongoing obsession with nostalgia and preppy dress codes, stripes bounced back with a bang courtesy of Talia Byre, Mithridate, Roksanda, Natasha Zinko and Keburia.
Floral Mania
While vintage florals emerged as a favourite during NYFW, London leaned into punchier alternatives. Showcased at Burberry, Patrick McDowell, Erdem, Simone Rocha and Richard Quinn to name a few, floral motifs received a colourful makeover for SS27.
Check-mate
Polished plaid, twee ginghams and dazzling checks unfurled en masse, championed by Christopher Kane's Mulberry, Yuhan Wang, Maximilian Raynor and, of course, Burberry.
Fringe
Taking the baton from the Big Apple, London toyed with flirtatious fringing in many forms spanning bags to skirts, courtesy of houses such as Labrum, Maximilian Raynor, Agro Studios, Erdem and Daniel Fletcher's Mithridate.
Tailoring
London has long been heralded for its tailoring. Taking Savile Row style to haute new heights, McQueen, Mulberry, Labrum, Mithridate and Patrick McDowell proved the timeless elegance of impeccably-cut suiting.
Clashing Prints
Considering that LFW is the eccentric sister of its fellow fashion capitals, the rise of clashing prints on the catwalk comes as little surprised. Gaudy florals collided with pinstripes, heritage checks and kitsch graphics at the behest of Chopova Lowena, Burberry, Mithridate, Erdem and more.
Whimsical Embellishments
One of the more subtle trends to materialise, whimsical embellishments, props and accessories were adapted by an array of designers. From Di Petsa's palm leaf accents to Yuhan Wang's hairbrush-clad belts and Pandora's jewels at Patrick McDowell, there was ample bijoux to feast your eyes on for SS27.
