Capri pants are coming back: Here’s how to style them in 2025

While many of us conjure up images of Audrey Hepburn in Sabrina or Roman Holiday, clad in elegant capri leggings that hugged every contour of her body, today, the divisively tailored trouser has been given a modern refresh – one that feels stylishly contemporary while retaining its timeless charm. 

There has been whispers of the garment's comeback on the high fashion scene ever since they emerged down the runway styled with a sheer blouse at Chanel's autumn couture show in 2021. Flash forward a year to Coperni's autumn 2022 collection, models donned capris with sculptural bodysuits and oversized blazers. Denim and polka dot iterations filled Jacquemus' spring/summer 2023 runway while The Row layered them over semi-opaque tights with heeled sandals.

The trend peaked during the spring/summer 2025 shows, with Louis Vuitton reinterpreting capris in colourful stripes and tweed designs. Meanwhile, during Chanel's 2026 resort presentation, they were crafted with a looser silhouette.

Capris have now transcended the runway and made their way into It-girl wardrobes – think Hailey Bieber, Bella Hadid, and Zoë Kravitz. The Rhode founder dressed them down with a sporty cropped anorak courtesy of Miu Miu and a pair of thong sandals this spring. Hailey also proved they are the perfect trouser for the evening – the skincare mogul paired a black pair with a light beige open trench from Mango and a white tank top in April. 

Zoe opted for a casual approach and styled her capris with an oversized grey top and ballet flats while Bella oozed full glamour in a black backless cowl-neck top and killer heels.

You will likely all remember the capri pant craze of the early 2000s, a staple in everyone's wardrobes, worn out to dinners, school dances, shopping dates and quite literally everything in between, you name it, the capri pants were there through it all, so it’s only fitting that they make a resurgence some 20 years later. 

What are capri pants?

Capri pants are in a league of their own: too long to be shorts but too short to be trousers. They sit anywhere from under the knee to a few inches above the ankle and are available in many different fabrics and styles, some baggy, some tight and (god forbid) some sparkly. 

Now that we’ve cleared that up, let's get down to business and discover how on earth one actually wears capri pants in 2025 and looks chic. 

With a Matching Activewear crop

Kendall Jenner can quite literally pull off anything and this matching grey ensemble has single-handedly healed my childhood capri pants trauma. In true model off-duty fashion, Kendall paired her skin-tight look with black ballet flats, sunglasses and a tote bag, effortlessly emulating the casual yet put-together style we all strive for.

With a Layered Piece

Once we descend into autumn and the temperature begins to drop, take the capri pants through the transitional season by layering up. Opt for a plain pair and add a staple coat for a statement look, or add a knit layered over a shirt for a preppy style. We love the pointed slingbacks styled with this look, but for a more casual feel, pair with a trainer or ballet flat.

With a Pop of Colour

Of course, the fashion girlies were amongst the first to adopt the trend, many showcasing an array of different variations at this season's fashion week. One in particular that caught my eye was Pernille Teisbaek’s all-black with pops of burgundy Hermés show look. Obviously, the Birkin bag elevates this look and I think without it the whole ensemble would fall flat, so ensure you choose your arm candy wisely if opting for a similar style.

With a Waistcoat

This denim capri moment from Danish stylist and ‘it’ girl Emili Sindlev is giving major Hannah Montana vibes in all the right ways. I love how she’s layered a plaid waistcoat over a plain t-shirt and paired it with a mane of blonde mermaid hair and secretary-style glasses.

With Ballet Flats and a Blouse

Leave it to Alexa Chung to style this season's most trending animal print, shoes and now pant choices together in one outfit. Alexa chose a bold statement pair of leopard print capris and styled them with a silky style blouse and her trusty black Miu Miu ballet flats.
