Princess Stephanie of Monaco appeared at a royal engagement for the first time since her split from circus owner Franco Knie, resplendent in blue at the annual Rose Ball on Saturday.

Upwards of one thousand guests, including designer Karl Lagerfeld, and former Beatle Ringo Starr, were on hand at Monte Carlo's rose-bedecked Sporting Club for the traditional event, which raises funds for the Princess Grace Foundation.

The star of the evening was 37-year-old Stephanie, who recently returned to the principality after living with Franco, her lover of two years, in a circus caravan. The princess was radiant as she greeted ball guests just days after the split was brought to light, and she stayed close to her father Prince Rainier throughout the night.

Princess Caroline, elegant in a champagne-coloured gown with bright detailing, made the rounds with her husband Ernst of Hanover. A tuxedo-clad Prince Albert also mingled with the illustrious guests, including his friend and former flame Tasha de Vasconcelos, actress Ursula Andress and singer Marianne Faithful.
