American football is as integral to Thanksgiving as turkey and cranberry sauce. And, despite being far from his native shores, ex-president Bill Clinton got his helping of the sport on Thursday when he joined a traditional Thanksgiving Day game for US students at Oxford University. The former US leader and his wife Hillary were in town to visit to their daughter Chelsea, 22, who is studying for a masters degree in international relations at the venerable institution. Wearing a sweat suit emblazoned with "Commander in Chief" on the back, the 55-year-old threw himself enthusiastically into the friendly game, leaping, diving and tackling his fellow players with gusto. Earlier in the week the former First Couple had celebrated the traditional American holiday with their daughter in Oxford's smartest hotel, The Randolph. And, like thousands of proud parents before them, the pair had dropped by to check out Chelsea's digs in the historical city of learning. Mr Clinton is, of course, no stranger to Oxford, having spent time there himself as a Rhodes Scholar in the late Sixties.
