After a quiet farewell earlier this month, King Charles' mysterious bodyguard has returned to the spotlight for a grand royal outing.

Charles' former security chief, whose name is Jag Khangura, resurfaced on day two of Royal Ascot on 17 June, which the King and Queen and the Prince and Princess of Wales also attended. The retired bodyguard wore his finest race day attire on Wednesday, looking sharp in a three-piece morning suit with a distinguished black top hat – perfect for the formal trackside dress code.

He posed for solo pictures at the racecourse, carrying an umbrella that became part of his signature look while working on the King's staff. The King's bodyguard became somewhat of an internet sensation, being compared to a real-life 'Kingsman'. He became recognisable while on royal outings for his beard, suited attire and umbrella.

Retirement news

Last month, The Times revealed Charles' long-time bodyguard would be leaving the royal's service. He completed his final duty on the royal couple's visit to the US in April.

Jag was recognised in the 2026 King’s Birthday Honours list for his services to royalty and specialist protection. In a statement per The Metropolitan Police, the retired inspector said: "It's been a privilege to serve and represent my colleagues and my community in role."

"I leave with the happiest of memories and the utmost respect for all those that serve and sacrifice for King and country," he added.

Quiet farewell

The King quietly bid farewell to his long-time bodyguard earlier this month. A month after stepping down from his position, the retired security chief signed off his years-long service with a special celebration in central London on 10 June.

James Eden, founder of Private White V.C and who was in attendance for the celebration hosted at Chelsea Barracks, offered his congratulations to the bodyguard, whom he praised as an "absolute hero".

"Without question one of the most photogenic and stylish men I have ever met. Over the years I have loved seeing him photographed wearing Private White V.C in every corner of the globe," he wrote on Instagram.
