Paul Hollywood has jetted off to the famous capital of Rome for a city break – and he has been keeping his fans au fait with his Italian adventure.The Great British Bake Off judge has shared a series of snaps of his holiday, including venues that he thinks would make great set locations for the next series of the popular baking programme that has taken the nation by storm. "Morning ...," tweeted the 48-year-old on Monday. "I'll tweet a pic of a great place to put bake off tent later!! You'll see what I mean."
© Photo: Getty ImagesJust hours later Paul was back online to reveal more. "Started the day in kent ending it in Roma!! Great buildings here .. Thinking colisseum would be great venue for GBBO," he wrote alongside a snap of the charming façade of an Italian building.
On Tuesday, Paul, who has been working alongside baking queen Mary Berry on the award-winning GBBO, visited the city's most popular tourist attraction, the famous Colisseum. "Nice angle of colisseum from emperors home ... Not bad!!" he wrote of the Flavian amphitheatre which dates from AD 72, has a seating capacity of more than 50,000 and was a vast area of entertainment where gladiators, slaves, prisoners and wild animals battled, often until their death.
Next on the agenda for the celebrity baker was naturally the food that Italy is most famous for – pizza and bread. "I'm currently checking out good pizzerias and pane!! Any suggestions in Roma? Over to you.." he tweeted.
Paul also took a tour of the inside of the world-famous monument and shared a glimpse with fans.
And of course, we mustn't forgetten Italy's wonderful coffee, which can be sipped while sitting in one of the city's beautiful piazzas watching the people go by or more speedily, standing at the bar of a café."When in Rome and all that" wrote Paul with a photograph of an empty cup of coffee.
Fans responded with recommendations including "Forno Roscioli near Campo di Fiori and Bonci" for great pizza and "Panificio Bonci, Dall'Anto, Antico Forno Roscioli" for authentic Italian bread.
No doubt other tourist destinations on the baker's travel list are the breathtaking Trevi Fountain, which features a statue of Neptune, God of the sea, Vatican City and the late Renaissance church situated within the Vatican walls, St. Peter's Basilica. And of course, the Pantheon...
