Caroline Kennedy fought back tears when she spoke publicly about the death of her daughter, Tatiana Schlossberg, for the first time on May 31.
The former U.S ambassador talked of the family's loss during her emotional speech at the annual John F. Kennedy Profile in Courage Award ceremony in Boston.
Tatiana died in December 2025 after a battle with cancer. The mother-of-two, author, and environmental journalist lost her fight with acute myeloid leukemia leaving her family devastated.
In her speech, Caroline thanked family for supporting her father's library.
'Too short life'
"Politics is a family endeavor, and I'm so grateful to the members of my family who are here tonight and whose support over many years has kept my father's spirit alive and made this institution a living memorial."
She then faltered before paying tribute to Tatiana, who she shared with her husband, Edwin Schlossberg.
"Most of all, we remember Tatiana, who served on the board of this library, and represented everything my parents stood for in her beautiful, amazing and too-short life."
Her words were met with applause as Caroline once again thanked the audience.
Family heartbreak
Tatiana, her congressman candidate brother, Jack, and their sister, Rose, are the only grandchildren of former President John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie.
Caroline's brother, John F Kennedy Jr. and his wife, Carolyn died in a plane crash before they could start a family.
Tatiana's cancer battle
Tatiana's death was announced a month after she wrote an essay for the The New Yorker revealing she had been diagnosed with cancer and that it was "terminal."
She was first diagnosed in May 2024 after the birth of her second child with her husband, George Moran.
Tatiana's cousin, Tim Schriver, wrote a moving tribute to her on X.
"Yesterday, we said goodbye to Tatiana," he wrote. "Heartbreak doesn't begin to capture the sadness we feel. Our hearts are with Caroline and Ed and George and Josie and Eddie and Rose and Jack.
"She had so much more living to do. She was so smart and so funny, just like her mom. She was so thoughtful and so brilliant, just like her dad."
Tatiana was only 35 years old when died.
