Angelina Jolie was the picture of elegance when she stepped out on Tuesday in a $5,190 dress for a screening of her new film, Couture.

The 51-year-old looked incredible, posing for photos at The Whitby Hotel in New York City, wearing a black, strapless, draped dress by Tom Ford.

The gown is crafted from soft viscose silk jersey and features a plunging sweetheart neckline with a V-shaped detail at the center of the bust, concealing an internal corset for structure.

It also boasts hand-applied draping gathers across the front, flowing into a fluid, columnar silhouette.

In Couture, written and directed by Alice Winocour, Angelina plays Maxine, an American film director who is diagnosed with breast cancer while in Europe directing a film for a prestigious label during Paris Fashion Week.

"After receiving sudden, life-changing news, Maxine crosses paths with two other women: Ada (Anyier Anei), a young South Sudanese model who has escaped her predetermined destiny to make a name for herself, and makeup artist Angéle (Ella Rumpf), who quietly dreams of a different life," a description of the film reads.

"While their backgrounds couldn't be more different, the three women form a strong bond. Amid the glamorous scenes of haute couture, each must make choices small and significant, and confront major career decisions."

The film's official synopsis adds: "In the form of intertwining destinies, Couture examines the souls and wounds of women's bodies."

The project was deeply personal for Angelina, whose mom, Marcheline Bertrand, died of ovarian and breast cancer in 2007. Angelina also had a double mastectomy in 2013 after testing positive for the BRCA1 gene.

"Alice is a wonderful director and approaches the stories of the women in Couture with sensitivity and hope," Angelina told People

"The film is not about an end for my character but rather about a renewed desire to live life until your last breath, which particularly resonates with me at this time in my life."

She continued: "I am not sure I was strong enough even five years ago to do this. To be open and trusting to share and be vulnerable again.

"Things happen in life that take us off path. We lose ourselves and we feel isolated. I would have given anything to have my mother alive to be there for her grandchildren," she added.

Couture debuted at the Toronto International Film Festival last September, and Angelina told Variety at the time that she "felt very vulnerable" while making the movie.

"I feel like it's such a personal film," she added. "It felt so private that in my mind, it's probably the one film that doesn't feel like a film."
