Jennifer Garner and her former husband Ben Affleck are the proud parents to their children Violet, 20, Fin, 17, and Samuel, 12.

Sadly, on July 23 it was announced that Ben's mother Chris Anne passed away on June 2, at the age of 83, due to pancreatic cancer, per a Legacy obituary, according to DailyMail.

The devastating news came two years after the family grieved the death of Jennifer's father William Garner.

Although Jennifer and Ben went their separate ways, Jennifer had a deep bond with her mother-in-law, as did her children.

The duo often enjoyed walking around Los Angeles, as well as celebrating holidays and going on vacations together.

In September 2018, Ben attended a rehab facility, and during that challenging time, Chris lived with Jennifer and their children to help take a load off of the actress.

As a true doting grandmother, she helped temporarily raise the duo's little ones, when Violet was 12, Fin was nine and Samuel was six, as the kids went back to school, and Jennifer had a jam-packed promotion schedule for her new film Peppermint.

A touching final wish

Aside from being a loving family member to Jennifer and Ben's children, Chris was also close to her son Casey's children, Indiana, 22 and Atticus, 18.

According to the obituary, Chris's final wish was to witness her grandson Atticus graduate from high school.

In May, she lived out her dream to see him proudly cross the stage with his gown and cap. Sadly, two days later, Chris passed away in her sleep.

A trip down memory lane

The family spent their Thanksgivings together, even after the couple officially got divorced in October 2018, after the pair filed for the legal motion in April 2017.

Jennifer previously revealed to Entertainment Tonight: "Ben's mom, Chris, will be in town and she and Ben will take the kids and I'll have crafts set up and I’ll have T-Ball, soccer, I'll have anything set up."

She continued: "If they will play with the kids and just let me cook, it is heaven for me. I will make homemade bread, I'll make stuffing, I'll make a turkey, I'll make gravy, I'll make sweet potato pudding, I'll make pies. Just let me have that day in the kitchen."
