Olympic champ Steve Redgrave was knighted by the Queen Tuesday at Buckingham Palace. After receiving the honour, Her Royal Highness asked the five-time Gold medallist, “How are your feet?”

Sir Steven, who recently ran in the London marathon, replied, “I’ve got a couple of blood blisters on my toes, but it’s not too bad.”

“It is a great honour to be here”, the champion said. “It’s the third time and each time I got a bit further up the line. I never realised how much that day in Sydney meant to so many people. I still don’t full know.”

Sir Steve made history at the 2000 Olympics in Sydney when he won his fifth consecutive gold medal after five Games held over 16 years.

Team mates Tim Foster and James Cracknell took home MBE awards while three time medallist Matthew Pinsent received a CBE. Foster, dressed in a purple suit and matching shoes for the event, joked: “The last time I met the Queen at the 1996 Olympics she said I was wearing a horrible tie. So I felt I had something to live up to.”

Steve was joined by his wife Ann and their children Natalie, nine, Sophie, seven, and Zak, three.
