Ten years after it burst onto the morning TV scene, British show The Big Breakfast has aired for the final time. The final edition of the Channel Four programme came to a close with its traditional Friday sing-song, and presenter Richard Bacon reading out a letter from the Prince of Wales congratulating the show for entertaining the nation and wishing everyone luck with the future.

There had been rumours that Big Breakfast founder Bob Geldof would blow up the building which which had been home to the show since it started in 1992. Instead, computer tricks were used to make the lock-keeper’s cottage look like it had disappeared.

A host of stars were on hand to say farewell to the programme, including EastEnder Lucy Benjamin, who plays Lisa Shaw in the popular soap, Royle Family actor Ralf Little, comedian Johnny Vegas and garage collective So Solid Crew. The show also featured pre-recorded messages from former presenters Chris Evans, Johnny Vaughn and Denise Van Outen, recalling their favourite moments.

The Big Breakfast was a massive success when it launched, but a slump in audience figures forced Channel Four to axe the show. A new breakfast progamme called Rise! will begin on the channel at the end of April.
