Rebecca Broussard, the former lover of Jack Nicholson, and celebrity hairdresser John Frieda were involved in separate air rage incidents this week.

Ms Broussard, with whom the The Pledge actor has two children, was taken into custody after the transatlantic flight on which she was travelling was diverted following an explosive altercation.

The actress, who had apparently been drinking before boarding the plane, flew into a rage after her requests for more champagne were refused. Described as being “abusive, aggressive and disruptive”, Rebecca eventually had to be physically restrained. Her behaviour forced the pilot of the Virgin Atlantic LA to Heathrow flight to make an emergency landing in Winnipeg, Canada, where the plane was met by police.

“The woman was unwell as well as behaving in an aggressive, disruptive and abusive manner,” said a spokesman for the airline.

After recovering in a local hospital, Rebecca was taken into custody. The former model has apparently told friends that her behaviour was the result of an unexplained reaction to a sleeping pill.

Also arrested after an alleged air-rage incident was Lulu’s former husband John Frieda, 50. The top hairdresser reportedly insisted on using a toilet near the cockpit, despite stewards' requests that he remain seated as the seatbelt sign was still on. When asked to go back to his seat, Frieda is alleged to have grabbed one by the arm and pushed another, causing him to fall. He was later charged with interfering with a flight crew and a misdemeanour assault.

“In today’s climate, bad behaviour on a plane can’t be tolerated,” said US assistant attorney Anne Perry. Frieda was released on bail and appears in court next month.
